In gardening and agriculture, the term scarifying can refer to two things: on the one hand, the action of raking the lawn to aerate the soil and remove the layer of thatch; on the other hand, the moss that forms at the roots and chokes the grass.
The mission of the aerator is to oxygenate the soil at depth (up to 10 cm) while the scarifier remains on the surface. Both are necessary to solve the problem of soil compaction and to remove part of the topsoil.
