In 1884, Karl Elsener opened a knife workshop in Ibach-Schwyz. At that time Switzerland was still one of the poorest countries in Europe. In the early years, Karl Elsener fought to combat poverty and unemployment in the Schwyz basin, creating jobs and helping stem the flow of emigration. In 1891, it supplied the Swiss Army with military knives for the first time. In 1897, he developed the Swiss officer and sports knife, which is now the iconic Swiss Army Knife, thereby laying the foundation for a flourishing company that would be able to sustain its position on the world stage. From then on, his spirit of solidarity, his deep roots in the region and his strong commitment to solid values shaped the Victorinox company philosophy.
Victorinox guarantees that its products meet the highest standards in all areas and quality is never compromised, regardless of the place of production. Most Victorinox products, including Swiss Army knives, household and professional knives, watches and fragrances, are made in Switzerland.
For reasons of experience, luggage items are produced abroad, where the technical resources, personnel and materials necessary for efficient manufacturing can be accessed. Furthermore, to ensure that these products meet the highest standards, partners are carefully chosen and high quality standards are rigorously enforced.

Victorinox AG is an independent family business with 90% of its shares held by the Victorinox Foundation. In this way, the continuity of the company is optimally guaranteed, since it has 90% of the profits generated as reserves. The remaining 10% of the shares are held by a non-profit foundation that supports charitable projects.
