Description

Indoor bonsai that mostly come from tropical climates and therefore cannot withstand low temperatures. We must place them inside the houses, always close to a source of natural light. Semi-deciduous tree. Very appreciated for the small size of its leaves, and its bark that flakes.

More information

Scientific name: Zelkova parvifolia

Common name: Chinese elm Family: Ulmaceae (Ulmaceae) Origin: China, Korea and Japan It is a species suitable for beginners due to its rapid growth, resistance and ease of branching
MAINTENANCE OF THE BONSAI

Watering: Every two 2-3 days in summer, you only have to water when the substrate is dry. Fertilizer: Once every 20-30 days from spring-summer until autumn.
Transplant Every 2 years, at the end of winter or in autumn in a substrate based on 70% mulch and 30% coarse-grained sand.
Pruning:
It requires continuous pruning for the containment of the form throughout the vegetative period.

The Chinese elm is a tree that responds very well to pruning, even the strongest, sprouting very well from old wood.

The best time to prune is in spring, just when the buds of the shoots begin to swell and the tree begins to mobilize its sap.

It can also be done at the end of the summer, after the mini summer lethargy.

Vigorous root lightening interventions should be performed during transplantation, and preferably should be accompanied by selective crown reduction.

New shoots will be shortened during the growing season, either by pinching (cutting off the tips) while they are still tender, or by pruning in summer.

To promote the formation of a thick trunk, completely defoliate the tree at the end of spring (June in the Northern Hemisphere), every 3 years.

Fasteners will apply late spring through summer.
Diseases: The main disease is fungi because you have to place the plant in an aerated area and avoid overwatering

As it is this type of plant, the age and size can vary and is approximate, the pot may change in shape or color and the photos are indicative. ORIGIN: CHINA

* Observations: The shape and measurements of the bonsai are approximate. The color and shape of the pot may vary from the one in the photo. Remember that a bonsai is a living being, that is why the images that appear are representative.
