ORIGIN

Southern and central Europe (Buxus harlandii, Taiwan).

ETYMOLOGY

It comes from the Greek "Pyxos", the name used to designate this plant.

SUBSCRIBER

Spring and fall.

Every 2 or 3 years in spring.

100% Akadama, or mixed with 20% volcanic gravel.

Situation: It must be located outside in full sun all year round.

Irrigation: abundantly in summer, and moderately in winter.

Curiosities: It is a very long-lived tree that can reach 500 years. Its wood is very dense and hard, yellowish in color, highly valued for making flutes, pipes, spoons and tool handles. It has been heavily exploited, so it is difficult to find large trees, and that is why we always associate it as a shrubby form. However, we can find it as a 6 m tree, in its natural state, in some protected enclaves such as the Ordesa National Park (Huesca).
