With winter approaching, it's important to take steps to maintain a comfortable temperature in your home, especially on the coldest days. To this end, different models of stoves have been launched on the market, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.
In this article, we analyze the main characteristics of 4 heating systems: electric, wood, gas and pellets. This information will help you choose a model that best suits your tastes and needs. Let's get started!
Electric heating
Electric stoves are one of the most popular heating systems. They work in the following way: the energy of an electric stove passes through a circuit, increasing the temperature of a set of resistances. In this way, they convert electricity into heat.
They are ideal for areas where it is not too cold and buildings where heating is not used frequently, such as second homes. This is because they consume a lot of electricity, the most expensive form of energy.
Heating with wood
Wood stoves have been part of people's lives for a long time. For centuries, this material has been used to heat homes. These heating systems stand out for being resistant and durable.
In addition, they have a classic design and have an aesthetic that makes them beautiful decorative pieces. They are perfect for the coldest days of the year when you prefer to stay indoors. On the other hand, there are models that have a more modern design. Some can even be hung or mounted on the wall.
As their source of energy is wood, they are usually a cheaper option than some fuels and do not require electricity to work. Therefore, they are a great source of heating when a power outage occurs.
It should also be noted that the polluting emissions of a wood stove are minimal, offering cleaner heating than others. They can be used as a primary or secondary heat source.
Gas heating
Natural gas is one of the most popular fuels for stoves in Spain. The stoves that use it are comfortable, safe and offer great performance. This system uses gas to heat a boiler, which in turn raises the temperature of tubes through which water circulates. Finally, the hot liquid is directed to a series of radiators, which are responsible for heating the environment.
Because propane gas costs almost twice as much as natural gas, stoves that use it as fuel are an alternative to consider only in case you live in an area where the distribution network does not reach of natural gas. The supply of propane gas is carried out through three main ways: 1) by means of a tanker truck; 2) bottled, or 3) piped as part of a network of houses connected to a large central tank.
Finally, butane gas stoves are very common in private homes in the mountains. The fuel they use is usually stored in 12 kg cylinders that can be supplied at gas stations or ordered at home.
There are two different types of butane gas stoves: interior and exterior. The former are widely used to heat the rooms of houses. On the other hand, the outdoor ones are the preferred option in many restaurants with terraces. The latter stand out for their great power, which can be regulated according to the user's needs.
Another piece of equipment that works with butane gas is the sealed boiler. The burning of fuel increases the temperature of a building by heating a circuit that feeds hot water to a set of radiators. Finally, there is the sealed butane gas fireplace. Its greatest attribute is the speed with which it reaches maximum temperature: just 5 minutes.
Heating with pellets
Biomass stoves are fueled with pellets, a product made from sawdust. However, it must be taken into account that biomass stoves are more expensive than other models and require more maintenance. In addition, the user needs enough space to store the pellets.
