How to make alcohol gel for your hands

March 27, 2020

Since its outbreak in China, the coronavirus has kept the world in check and has placed our country in a state of maximum health emergency, forcing the government to confine us to our homes as a measure of eradication and containment of contagion under the motto stayhome it, but we do know its mechanism of propagation and the prevention measures that we must apply to avoid infections.

In addition to putting the motto "stayhome" into practice as strictly as possible, keeping a distance of at least one metre from people, avoiding touching hands, nose and mouth and adopting respiratory hygiene measures, it is vital that we maintain thorough hand hygiene, as they are one of the main vehicles for transmitting the virus. Therefore, it is essential to wash them frequently with soap and water for twenty seconds and to apply disinfectant gels, as they help to repel bacteria, prevent their proliferation and therefore reduce the risk of contracting infections, especially when we are away from home and do not have soap and water within reach.

However, even before the declaration of the health emergency, the panic among the population led to the exhaustion of the stocks of disinfectant gels, so the chances of getting hold of one are impossible. However, there is no cause for concern, as you can make your own antiseptic at home quickly and easily, as we explain in our Brycus tips.

How to make alcohol gel for your hands
What you need

- One dosing bottle

- 1/3 of aloe vera gel. If you have sensitive skin, protect your hands by increasing the amount of gel, because it has moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties that help prevent and mitigate various skin conditions.

- 2 /3 Ethyl alcohol-ethanol. It is important to take into account that it must contain at least 60% of alcohol, because the lower ones have no antiseptic power.

- Almond oil

Protect Your Hands: Steps to Making Sanitizing Gel

1. Pour the aloe vera gel into a container.

2. Add the ethyl alcohol and stir.

3. Add a few drops of almond oil, and mix well with a spoon until the components are fully integrated. If the texture seems too gelatinous or dense, you can always add a little more.

4. Finally, put the solution into the dosing bottle.

How to apply it to be effective

As you can see, making a homemade disinfectant gel is very simple and only takes a few minutes. However, it is important that you apply it correctly, otherwise it will not have the effect you expect. The World Health Organization (WHO) has explained the correct way to do it, and at Brycus we share it with you.

So, spread it well over the surface of your hand and rub one palm with the other. When it is well spread, place your right hand over your left and interlace your fingers so that the product reaches the nooks and crannies between them. Then repeat the process starting with the left hand. Finally, rub with the opposite side of the palms and between the thumbs. When the antiseptic gel is dry, your hands will be disinfected.

The WHO reminds us that the disinfectant gel should not be a substitute for hygiene with soap and water. However, it is an excellent complement after hand washing and the best resource when we do not have access to these elements and, in addition, we handle objects with a lot of accumulation of microorganisms when passing through many hands, for example, the shopping cart, money, railings or door handles. Even so, the most effective remedy and the most efficient way to get rid of them from our lives is definitely to put the yomecar in practice.
