Fixing this type of leak ourselves may be possible as long as they are not too bulky and you need the help of a professional. With the Brycus tips we tell you how to fix a Water Leak at home with only waterproof adhesive tape, a cloth and scissors. Follow our step-by-step instructions and visit our plumbing section if you need any of the materials.

What should we do before repairing the leak?

Water leaks are common occurrences in homes around the world, which can happen in any installation. It is of vital importance to detect the leak, to avoid increasing the cost of our bill if we fail to detect it and provide a solution.

- First step: Find the exact location of the leak in your installation. When we have located the water leak we can continue.

- Second step: Close the stopcock to avoid possible accidents during the repair of the leak, avoiding possible greater evils.

- Third step: When the stopcock is closed, there is always water in the tuviereis, so we have to proceed with the drainage of them. To carry out this process, we only have to open the taps of the house until no more water comes out through them.

- Fourth step: With a clean and dry cloth we proceed to dry out the section of the pipe we are going to repair. This is necessary to be able to fix the adhesive correctly in the repair.

Once we have completed the steps prior to installation, we will get to work and begin to repair the leakage of water in our pipe.

Fixing the water leak

To repair the section of pipe that has water leakage, we can use adhesive tape. It must be taken into account that the tape is impermeable in order to seal the leak hermetically, otherwise it would be useless for the repair of a water leak.

To place the waterproof adhesive tape, we must have previously cleaned well the session of pipe containing the leak. This is vitally important for the tape to adhere properly to the pipe. With the pipe perfectly clean, we only have to cut the piece of tape we need and surround the entire area of pipe in which the water leak is located. For this we will stretch the tape until doubling its size, covering little by little the affected pipe area. It is necessary to place the tape, taking into account that each layer covers at least half of the previous layer, achieving a perfect seal.

When we have placed the waterproof adhesive tape, we only have to wait. In a few minutes a waterproof and resistant layer will be created, thus sealing our water leakage. To finish what we have to do is open the water stopcock and check that we no longer have any water leak in our pipe.
