Lacquering or glazing a piece of furniture or surface is an excellent way to renovate without having to buy a new object. If, in addition, you do it yourself, then you will also save on the labour and moving costs of the professional. Below we explain how to do it properly. It is not in vain that saving and "do it yourself" is one of the key premises of citizens today.Follow these brycus tips in order to save significantly and, moreover, you can do everything to your liking.
You will first need a sandpaper, a brush or a roller (fine), as well as a tray to paint on. In addition, you must choose the correct enamel according to the type of furniture, in order to achieve the desired glossy effect.
First, the surface must be prepared, so it must be clean and completely free of dust. However, if the furniture has been previously varnished, you should use sandpaper (which can also be electric) and apply it gently. Once the process is finished, the surface should be cleaned by removing all traces of dust with a cloth. It is also vital to have the room where you are going to work ventilated. In addition, the instructions of the enamel manufacturer should be read carefully in order to prevent unwanted toxic inhalation.
In the case of surfaces belonging to furniture, handles, knobs and all kinds of embedded attachments should be removed from these. In addition, where you do not want to touch, you should put on body tape. And, in the case of any type of hole or orifice, a filler should also be placed in the area.
Since the enamel does not require a prior coat of primer, it is rolled directly onto the surface with the help of a fine-grained roller (or brush) after being heavily impregnated with enamel. Special care must be taken in the joints, so that they are covered as much as possible, in order to avoid marks and make the finish look perfect.
After the enamel has dried, if we do not like the result or the appearance, we can repeat the operation. It should be sanded again with fine sandpaper, in order to remove as little paint as possible. The enamel, placed in a bucket, should be mixed with a little turpentine. To print it on the surface, we will use a paletina, which will have to be washed with water and soap. It is worth noting that the lacquering process can be repeated as often as desired.
Since the glazes are highly resistant, it is not necessary to apply a protector afterwards. However, it is really advisable to use it on the areas of passage. It is good to know that the enamel takes about eight hours to dry to the right consistency. However, always take the marking on the product instructions as a reference point. And it is not a bad idea to add two or three extra hours. These eight hours not only mean that no stains remain when touched, but that you can continue to work on the furniture to improve it. Finally, you can finish with a touch of wax (to give it more shine) and polish the surface.
It is essential to have all the necessary tools for the process in advance. Another very common mistake is to choose a brush or roller that is not suitable for the type of furniture or surface to be worked on. You must choose both the right size and the right thickness (in this case, fine). The sanding phase is also essential, in order to avoid roughness in the final finish. The enamel must also be applied from bottom to top and always in the same direction, distributing it equally.
