There are those who are very fond of cars and like to have them pristine. There are certain parts in our vehicle that suffer especially the passage of time and the deterioration derived from use. Some of the parts that give character and are an indication of how well our vehicle is are the tires. These are often damaged or ugly due to having brushed against the curb, due to inclement weather or due to the mere wear and tear of the running gear. Being a fairly expensive part of the vehicle, changing them regularly seems impossible, so we must choose to restore them, especially by painting. Depending on the deterioration, the type of tire, and / or the result sought, we will choose one technique or another. Here are some Brycus tips for painting our tires.
The first and fundamental thing, regardless of the technique to be used, is to release the wheel. It is advisable to raise the car with a jack, and then remove the nuts one by one. They are usually very tight, and it is advisable to loosen them a bit before raising the vehicle.
If there is deterioration due to rust, we will start by going over the surface with a metal bristle brush. Put a lot of emphasis on the most affected areas and nooks and crannies. Once we have removed most of the surface rust, we should preferably clean the area with a pressure hose, but then do a deeper cleaning with acetone.
Dry the surface on which we are going to work, and apply masking tape around the contour so that the tire is not affected by the treatment that we are going to apply next. We can choose from various products on the market. The most optimal, if we talk about a surface with rust, is to apply an antioxidant enamel, presented in various colors, and apply it directly according to the instructions provided by the manufacturer.
We must give as many coats as indicated, respecting of course the drying times. Once we have applied as many layers as necessary, we return the wheel to its place, making sure that it is properly anchored.
There are more modern methods, such as the spray, which have as much or better results than the previous one.
In this case we will use a series of sandpaper, which we will use from those with the thickest to the finest grain. Not without first, and with the help of a grease remover, to leave the wheel immaculate.
Once they are clean, sanded and dry, it is time to start with the proper treatment preparing the tire as described in the previous process.
First, we will give a fairly dense primer, which has a self-leveling compound, in order to be well homogeneous. Often two or more coats are necessary.
Now comes the turn of painting as such. It is important that the primer layer is perfectly homogenized, does not have burrs, and has been professional, the success of the previous ones depends on this step, which are somewhat less delicate. After three hours of drying the priming process we apply the spray paint, in 5 or 6 layers, which is what the manufacturer usually indicates.
After drying for 24 hours we proceed to apply the lacquer or varnish, which will give the finish to our rims. This finish is more than advisable since it usually has water-repellent characteristics, thus increasing durability and ease of cleaning, not to mention the aesthetic issue.
Thanks to these Brycus tips you can enjoy tires like new to be able to show off wherever you go.
