Painting furniture with chalk paint
Before starting to paint

This type of paint can be used on different materials, it does not require you to sand the corresponding surface beforehand and it has a finish similar to velvet. Note that:

  • You can use a roller, a brush or a spray for its application. You can clean the utensil of your choice with soap and water.
  • A minimal amount allows you to paint a large surface given its density.
  • You will not suffer from odors that are too intense as this paint is odorless.
  • You should not apply it to outdoor, kitchen or bathroom furniture because it does not withstand humidity well.
  • Before painting the furniture, clean it with alcohol and let it dry so that the paint covers better.

Tips and Tricks

Regardless of the tool you choose to paint, you should apply the paint until you notice that it loses its shine. If you want to give the furniture a more classic look, sand some areas, when the paint dries, to show the wood in the areas you want.

In both cases, and after obtaining the expected result, you must varnish the furniture with a protective wax. Wait 10 minutes and clean well to a shiny finish. If you want it matte, apply protective varnish. As you have seen, the use of this type of paint is not too different from traditional paint. However, you can play with the type of finish by practicing the following tricks:

· If you want the finish to be rustic, it is recommended that you apply the paint from the boat and with a brush of a certain thickness. The thicker it is, the better the result.

· If you prefer the more elegant finish, add a little water to the pot, stir well and paint with a brush or roller. When finished, wait for the paint to dry and sand lightly.

· Are you betting on varnishing? Use it on outdoor furniture preferably.

· Waxing allows you to play with colors and create different designs.

· Stripping is highly recommended to age your furniture.

· Use different layers to make a crackle. Better if you combine colors from the same color range.

When it comes to the use of paint itself, keep these recommendations in mind:

· Do not shake the bottle to avoid air bubbles. Move the paint with the brush until it has the density you prefer.

· After use, add a little water before closing the bottle to avoid increasing the thickness of the paint.

· Instead of applying a layer with the paint that is too dense, bet on two, but with the most liquid paint so that it covers the furniture better.

· The spray is the best option to cover a surface that is not completely smooth.

· You will be able to appreciate the true result of your work two weeks after its completion as long as you let it rest without sanding it or applying any other product.
