Today, with the increase in home burglaries, home security has become a very important issue for Spanish families. For anyone, feeling safe in their own home is of vital importance and that strangers can enter our homes to steal is something that concerns us all.
With our Brycus advice, we help you to improve on many factors in your life. With this article we are going to give you a hand to increase security in your home and make it a little more difficult for anyone to enter your home.
You will learn with us all the steps, to replace a simple lock by a multipoint security lock, thus increasing the security of your home.
Why use a multipoint lock.
Nowadays, the systems are more and more efficient and allow us to keep a door fixed, to such an extent that it is comparable to the systems that carry the safes.
The biggest virtue of the multipoint lock is that the lock is not centered in only one point, but as its name indicates, the lock is distributed in different points, multiplying in this way the security of the door. There are two types of multipoint locks, the mortise lock and the overlay lock. In either case the door will be more secure, anchoring the door to the frame. With this innovative system, we can triple the security in our home and avoid much more effectively that someone can open the door.
Installation of multipoint security lock step by step
From Brycus advice we explain step by step how to install the new multipoint security lock on your door. It's a simple installation that we can do ourselves once we acquire our new lock.
1.- Before starting with the installation of the new lock, what we have to do is dismantle the old one. To remove the box from the old one, we must first remove the handle and remove the cylinder.
2.-We must mark the position of the boxes of the new lock. To do this, we adjust the central box of the new lock in the hole of the old one and with a marker we mark the positions of the different boxes.
3.- With our milling machine, we create the channel where we will inlay the metal profile of the new lock. We will use a special groove milling machine for this purpose.
4.- In this step we have to create the space for the different boxes of our lock. As we have already marked their position in a previous step, we now only need to proceed with the emptying with a wood drill. It is important to leave the interior as smooth as possible.
5.- With a crown saw of an approximate diameter to the shield of the lock that we are going to install, we make the recess. We finish this step by making the holes for the counter-shield with a wooden drill.
6.- Place the lock on the door, holding the profile with the screws included with the multipoint safety lock.
7.- With the door in position, it is time to place the plates. To do this, we must first point them out and make the lowering to be able to place them. Then we place the plates and fasten them with their screws.
8.- Finally, we only have to place the cylinder in the door and install the shield and counter-shield. We check that the new multipoint security lock works as it should and that's it.
With a simple lock change that any DIY enthusiast can do, we have achieved a considerable reinforcement on our door. By changing a simple lock for a multipoint security lock, we managed to increase security and prevent possible access attempts.
