The past and present of barbecues would not be the same without Weber, a true giant of the sector. To a large extent, this firm instilled barbecue culture in the United States and, later, around the world. We are Weber Center, that is to say, an official distributor of the products of this legendary brand. Brycus News brings you its fascinating story.
Before knowing the beginnings of Weber, let's go back to a time before the second half of the twentieth century. Those who wanted to enjoy charcoal-grilled cuts usually had to build a brick barbecue on their terrace or garden. Being completely outdoors, a rainy or windy day could ruin even the best plans.
But the barbecue would begin to change in the middle of the last century, when George Stephen had an innovative idea. Using a nautical buoy, he built one of the first portable barbecues in history. The principle behind making this first model was surprisingly simple yet effective. After dividing the metal ball in two, he put three feet to one of the halves to turn it into a handy coal tank. The other part would be used as a lid that would protect the food from the elements and better distribute the heat inside.
This invention soon received praise from the family and friends of the brand-new inventor, which made him think about the possibility of marketing his portable barbecue. About a year after the first prototype saw the light, George decided to buy the company Weber Bros. Metal Works, of which he was already a partner, thus becoming its sole owner. With this, Weber-Stephen Products Co. was born, a company that was completely dedicated to the manufacture and sale of barbecues.
Over time, the presentation of Weber barbecues has changed to improve their performance and increase their possibilities. For example, before the end of the 1950s, a fireplace was added to let the smoke out without lifting the lid.
The 1960s witnessed the launch of a model that included a round table, providing an ideal space to prepare food even in the wildest environments. In addition, it came with a trolley for easy transportation.
Another milestone in Weber's history occurred in the following decade, with the release of the Gas Barbecue Kettle (1971) and the Weber Electric Kettle (1973). From then on, coal ceased to be the only source of heat and the designs began to run on gas and electricity.
In the 1980s, two presentations emerged that still remain to this day, of course, with a different look to that of the time. We refer to the Weber Genesis and the Weber Smoke Mountain Cooker. For its part, the One-Touch cleaning system for charcoal barbecues (still present in today's models) was created in the last decade of the last century. And the arrival of the new millennium brought with it the Weber Q and Summit range.
Weber has become part of the barbecue hall of fame as synonymous with quality, versatility and reliability. Today, he is a true pioneer and innovator in the global barbecue industry. Not in vain is considered one of the best brands in its sector.
