How much you can save by choosing A+++ on your home appliances

July 2, 2019

When we buy appliances for our home, we always choose the option that best fits our checklist: functions, capacity, dimensions, colour, price and probably also its energy efficiency. With this we ensure money saving with the reduction of electricity bill.

    Qualification system for household appliances

Like a student's assessments, labels on appliances that identify their energy efficiency with the letters A - F and are complemented with the + and - symbols.

Currently D is the minimum pass or reference rating for consumption and A+++ is the best energy rating.

The energy class of an appliance is established for each appliance based on the IEE or Energy Efficiency Index, a number calculated on the basis of use, capacity and other variables so, for each type of equipment, the referential consumption is established, its class D, then each appliance is assigned its class with respect to it.

According to the brycus advice, buying equipment with the best rating means lower electricity consumption and a significantly cheaper bill, it is convenient to change that old appliance we have at home for another A + + + +. The reduction of the bill will compensate its cost since it will consume only a percentage of what a class D one consumes.

How much do we save according to the type of appliance?

The intention to label appliances according to their class is part of a policy to encourage the conscious use of energy, since the final consumer can choose the one he considers most efficient.

Some household appliances that are qualified in this way are: dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, dryers, televisions, ovens, lamps and air conditioners; the established consumptions for some types of energy classes and household appliances are:

- Refrigerators: Class B refrigerators consume 498 kWh annually, but if they are class A+++ the consumption drops to 170 kWh, so we would save 55.76 €.

- Washing machines: Class B washers consume 278 kWh annually, but if they are class A+++ the consumption drops to 135 kWh, so we would save 24.31 €.

- Dryers: Class B dryers consume 627 kWh annually but if they are class A+++ the consumption drops to 177 kWh, so we would save 76.50 €.

- Dishwasher: Class B dishwashers consume 438 kWh annually but if they are class A+++ the consumption drops to 230 kWh, so we would save 35.36 €.

- Televisions: Class B televisions consume 135 kWh annually but if they are class A+++ the consumption drops to 53 kWh, so we would save 13.94 €.

How much is the reduction of the bill with A+++ appliances?

The numbers in the table above give an idea of the reduction of bill or saved when buying appliances with energy classification A+++, often the savings obtained during the time of its useful life justifies the investment.

Let's look at the following example: we want to replace the class B refrigerator in our house, when we buy an A+++ refrigerator, we save 55.76 € annually, ie 669.12 € after 12 years, when the average life time, we have saved enough to replace it with another of equal or better quality.

This example compares appliances of class B and A+++, however, depending on the type of appliance and its classification the figure saved can be considered almost a small fortune that could be allocated to anything else.

Other brycus tips for saving with A+++ appliances:

 Clean filters frequently.

Use full loads.

Avoid opening doors unnecessarily.

Keep appliances level.

Buy the equipment that has the capacity best suited to our needs.

Other Advantages of Buying Appliances A+++
