If you live in a natural environment or have a garden in your home, you may have considered building a bird feeder and observing them up close. It can be a very interesting activity and the children are sure to love it. There are many ways to make a bird feeder. Although it may seem complicated, you can actually use objects that are within everyone's reach and the assembly is very simple. You can choose the trough you like the most or the one you consider to be the easiest to build according to the means at your disposal.
Use a cup and a plate
With a normal breakfast mug, plate, rope and stick you can build a magnificent feeder to watch the birds up close. As for the tools needed for assembly with a drill will be sufficient, first you need to drill several holes in the plate with great care not to break it. This is done so that the plate can empty the accumulated water in case of rain. It is also important to make a hole just in the middle of the circumference of the plate.
The next step is to work with the cup. To do this, drill a hole in the side and attach the cup to the plate using a screw. The whole will look like a cup overturned on the plate but forming a solid platform.
Then we will use the rope and the wooden pole to make a small swing where the birds that come to look for food in our trough will rest. It is a simple way for the birds to feel at ease in our small trough and it will undoubtedly be a way of attracting all kinds of species.
The mechanism works in a very simple way: we fill the cup with bird food and, as it is overturned, the birds can access it without any problem and we will be able to see them at a short distance.
Use a bottle of soda or a brick.
It's another way to make a trough. All you have to do is make several holes in the bottle and then go through several branches. This way you will be able to hold it better in the tree. Open a few more windows in the bottle so that the birds can access the food and then just place the bird food in the bottle and close the stopper.
You can also use a carton of milk or juice instead of the soda bottle. In this case, all you have to do is open several windows on the sides of the cardboard so that the birds can eat and then hang it with a string from a branch.
Use a reflective tray
It is another simple and efficient procedure to attract birds. All you have to do is place a wooden board with a sheet that flashes from the sun's rays and nail it to a solid branch. In this way the birds will be attracted by the reflection of the sun and the food.
Use a glass bottle and pieces of wood.
All you have to do is build an L-shaped platform with two pieces of wood that form a right angle and then place a glass bottle upside down attached with wires to the wood. Then place a small plate next to the mouth of the bottle where the food will be deposited for the birds to eat. As the food in the dish ends, more will fall from the bottle and the birds will always have food.
As you can see, there are many different ways to build bird feeders, you just have to find the one you like best or the one that best suits your space needs, as it is not the same to build a trough in the field than in your garden. But without a doubt it can be a very nice experience to enjoy nature and observe birds closely in their natural habitat.
