Make your own Scarecrow

April 15, 2020

Scarecrows are a great resource to keep your plants and crops safe. Be it flowers or fruit trees, birds enjoy pecking plants and taking all their nutrients. Therefore, it is always a good idea to have help to keep these animals away and keep your plantation in perfect condition.

Today there are an infinity of ideas and Brycus tips to create your own scarecrow. It is a cheaper option than buying it in a store, and it also allows you to create something beautiful and totally personalized. At the end of the day, this is another decorative element of your balcony or garden! Next, we will see the steps to follow to achieve your own scarecrow, following the conventional design and more representative of this funny character.

The usual scarecrow format is designed for those who have a patio or a large space to carry out the hobby of gardening. To do this, you will need two sheets of wood: one meter and a half long for the horizontal axis and another two meters for the vertical axis, approximately. Also, you will need a shirt or shirt that you no longer use, some screws, string or wire, scissors and a screwdriver. To make the stuffing of the scarecrow you can use different materials, so you only have to choose the one that seems most practical or the one you already have at home. For this task you can use from dried leaves to hay for pets, going through pieces of cotton, grass or old rags, among others.

The first thing you must do to create this scarecrow of protection for your plants is to join the two woods that will support the body. Make sure you use the longest stick vertically, and place the shortest one at the height where you want the character's shoulders to be. You can take the proportions of your own body as a reference. Use screws to join both parts of the structure, but you can also opt for high strength hot glue.

Once you have the cross-shaped structure, it's time to start dressing it. Choose a garment that you no longer use (the plaid shirts are perfect!) And put the sleeves in the horizontal wood. Stretch the shirt down and snap it. At this moment you will have to block all the places where you could get rid of the filling that you will put later. Wrap the cuffs and close them with a string of raffia or a wire, and do the same with the bottom of the shirt. These ideas allow you to fill the scarecrow without its interior falling.

Now start putting the fill to your character. Choose the soft and manageable material that you prefer: cotton cushions are economical and easy to get. Go putting it by the collar of the shirt until it is well swollen. This will prevent your plantation from being unprotected during rainy weather, and will make the result much more efficient and resistant. You can dress the scarecrow of protection for your plants only with a shirt, or put also some pants and even gloves. The process to follow with all the clothes that you want to add is the same: put an abundant amount of stuffing and then close the ends with rope or wire.

The hobby of gardening requires a lot of time and effort, so it is worth investing some time in creating a scarecrow as effective. The last step we need to follow is to build a head for this funny character. For this you can use any bag or sack, but the material that gives better results is a jute bag like those used to transport plants, potatoes and crops in general. It is a very resistant option and you can find it in several sizes. For the filling, use the same material as in the body or make a big ball with plastic bags, which then you must place inside the jute. Put everything on the top of the structure and close the head well by its lower part, again with the help of a raffia or wire rope.

Once you have the entire structure ready, you can decorate the face and body of your scarecrow with paintings, with buttons for the eyes ... or even with a tie! Let your imagination fly with Brycus tips like this.
