On April 26, 1903, Athletic Club de Madrid was born, driven by a group of Basque students who decided to join together to found a new club that would compete with the most noble and impeccable sporting spirit. Enrique Allende is named the first president. The team jersey is blue and white in vertical stripes and the pants are black or white.

On a piece of land located behind the Retiro walls, the Athletic football field was located and on May 2, 1903, the first match was organized, played between its members.

President D. Julián Ruete promoted the construction of a new field that would highlight Athletic as a club of great tradition, consolidating it among the great entities of Spain. Thus, on February 9, 1913, the so-called O'Donnell field was inaugurated.

By winning the Central Federation Regional Championship on January 23, 1921, beating Madrid, the first official victory was achieved. It was the springboard to reach the national honor division, the Spanish championship.
